Choose Life

Reminds me of this blip...

Charity screening of Trainspotting, attended by Irvine Welsh, benefiting Scottish Love in Action, at the Dominion Theatre. Bottle of fizz to every sofa, and canapes, given a Scottish twist as a newspaper 'poke' with oatcakes, shortbread, lump of cheese and a bag of Highlander crisps. Good night, entertainment provided by two fangirls in a sofa in front (I think the fizz went early to their heads).

Though I still can't understand people not able to sit for two hours without the need to get up and disturb everyone else by walking past the screen to empty bladders; or make the possibility more likely by buying more booze (that supplied Cava just not hitting the spot it seems).

In other news, cycling great Laurent Fignon, winner of two Tours de France by the age of 24, and participant in perhaps the finest finish to a Tour ever - going into the final stage, unusually a time trial, he had a 50 second lead over Greg Lemond - the American promptly winning by 58 seconds to take the final yellow jersey by a mere 8 - has died at the age of 50 after a long fight with throat cancer. He was still working with French tv at this year's Tour, in 15-20 minute segments, basically as long as he could manage. An outspoken, intelligent guy (his nickname was Le Professeur - though that could be down to his little round specs and looooong hair as much as anything). He'll be sadly missed.

I had bought this t-shirt only a couple of weeks ago - I wore it on the commute in honour. A small thing that means nothing to anyone else, but it felt right.
