Civic Pride

In the 19th centuary many great civic buildings were erected in cities and towns throughout the north of England. They were outward signs to the inhabitants and visitors not only of the wealth of the area but also of civic pride and patronage to the arts.

This is from one of the earliest and one of the finest examples of the neoclassical style favoured by the City Fathers.
