Ants busy collecting nectar from clematis

Native clematis paniculata grows and flowers beautifully in Wellington. It is an interesting green white colour and grows up trees to flower on the tops.

The best known of the native clematis it is found in forest and bush throughout New Zealand. It is the most vigorous of the native clematis but it is difficult to establish.
It is an evergreen climber and has masses of white flowers in Spring and feathery seed heads.
It bears male and female flowers on separate plants. Male plants have more flowers so ones sold are usually male.
