The Salish Sea

Our resident heron is fishing in the Salish Sea. (did you know that herons have been brought in to our local wildlife center with their beak poking through a 2x4 piece of lumber??!) The waters of the Straits of Georgia, Straits of Juan de Fuca and Puget Sound have recently been officially named (USA in 2009, Canada in 2010) "The Salish Sea" after the indigenous peoples who have inhabited British Columbia and the NW corner of Washington State. I like thinking of these waters in 2 countries as one.
