Escaping Erebus

A Childs Autumn

I remember when I was a kid autumn meant back to school. But as you get used to being in that cycle of days, you appreciate more the freedom you feel when you're outside.

The crisp air smells so fresh. You wear your warmer snuggly clothes but don't hide from the cold. You still have oodles of warm sunlight sparkling on everything. Each day on your way home from school you go out of your way to step on the ultimate crunchy leaf.

It's been a long day, and you drop your napsack on the ground for a bit. The yard is littered with leaves. Who can resist jumping in the pile you kicked together with your cool blue boots, leaves and twigs now scattered in your messy hair. Falling down one last time, you lay back and look up. The old tree stands miles into the air from here. You lose track of time as you watch the wind shake it's long, bent out branches. Then towards you comes a single leaf...

I almost caught it.
