For the last 6 months it seems my job revolves around preparing the technical submissions for work involving offshore met masts. Still in the office after midnight is unfortunately no longer considered extreme.

Hence no time for biking, photography or a life..............

What is this I hear you ask? good question!

We will put two of these on each mast (along with anemometers, wind vanes, temperature sensors visibility sensors, pressure sensors, loggers etc etc etc!). This is METEK USA-1 ultrasonic anemometer used to measure atmospheric stability (stable, unstable and neutral conditions which will influence wake modelling). Measurements are based on a 'time time of flight principle' and the sensor returns 3 components of wind flow (U,V and W) as well as a number of components associated with the nature of the flow including the Obukhov Length which is the standard meteorological measurement of stability conditions and is a function of turbulence (dynamic), buoyant and thermal processes.
