Trafalgar Cemetery

This is part of the lovely and tranquil Trafalgar Cemetery here in Gibraltar. There are many interesting gravestones from the battle in October 1805 but the cemetery was actually consecrated in June 1798, seven years before the famous battle. It was then known as the Southport Ditch Cemetery. Many of the tombstones in the cemetery commemorate the dead of three terrible yellow fever epidemics in 1804, 1813 and 1814, and also victims of other sea battles of the Napoleonic Wars; The Battle of Algeciras in 1801 and actions off Cadiz in 1820 and Malaga in 1812. Interesting!
