NEOS 2010: Last Chance to See...

Today saw the conclusion of the North East Open Studios (NEOS) 2010 Season.

We visited a number of studios this afternoon, including this one near Fyvie, where we went to collect a couple of works we'd seen and purchased on our initial visit there a week ago.

On our arrival, we found these simple toy wooden boats floating in an old water trough outside the old bothy in which the works had been exhibited. The artist said she'd created them drawing on memories of similar toy boats she'd seen and played with in her childhood - but when she floated these in her trough, they keeled over because of the hight of their masts. Undaunted, she'd fixed long bolts to their undersides to act as keels and keep the boats upright - a truly inspired and highly successful piece of improvisation, as it turned out!
