Twin Lakes, Desolation Wilderness, California

Jane and I drove to Wright's Lake and hiked with backpacks to just beyond this lake where we set up camp. The trailhead was at Wright's Lake, off Highway 50, near Lake Tahoe. We gained about 1,000 feet of elevation in about three miles and were rewarded with beautiful views and tired legs. We had the place nearly to ourselves, as the summer hiking, backpacking season is drawing to a close in the Sierras. It was overcast most of the day, which made for comfortable hiking. We originally thought we would camp at Island Lake, but found the best campsites at Boomerang Lake between Twin Lakes and Island.
