Museum of Fire

This weekend was Doors Open Days in Edinburgh. According to their website:

"This is your chance to explore some of Edinburgh's most architecturally, culturally and socially significant buildings. From heritage landmarks to the newest of the capital's architecture, Doors Open Day offers visitors free access to properties that are either not usually open to the public, or would normally charge an entry fee."

It's a great idea and we went to a few places last year. Unfortunately this time we only had time for one visit, and opted for the Museum of Fire! Not as dramatic as it sounds but very interesting nevertheless.

Lots of old fire engines and fire fighting paraphernalia. Also some interesting stories from the guides. One appliance, which had to be pushed by hand, was such hard work that the firefighters were allowed to stop in every public house they passed on the way back to base for a free drink. God knows what happened if they got a second call later the same day!

p.s. yesterday's backblip also now up
