Hidden Behind an Open Door.

A kaleidoscopic view looking up through the spiral staircase of 19 Smith's Place, former office to Raimes, Clark and Co., a family firm of wholesale and analytical chemists founded in 1816. Charles Darwin was a early customer of theirs when he was a medical student at Edinburgh University Medical School between 1825 and 1831.

This house in has the oldest walled garden in Leith as well as original Robert Adam fireplaces, and was open to the public as part of the annual Open Doors event.
