Junk Cars

Riverside Avenue towards downtown Jacksonville acts as a divide. On one side, the side nearest the St Johns River, modern corporate headquarters of companies such as Fidelity, St Joe Company, Haskell and Everbank are to be found and give the appearance of modern city.

The other side of Riverside Avenue is a mixture of vacant land and old workshops and what I refer to as the Paint Quarter of Jacksonville, on account of the numerous paint wholesale establishments.

The area between Riverside Avenue and Park Street afforded quite a number of photographic opportunities this afternoon. I seem to be attracted to urban decay these days, perhaps it is a reflection of my status. :-)

I came across an auto workshop on Oak Street, which had several dilapidated cars outside and across the street. Nearly all of them were missing wheels and propped up on jack stands.

Again the contrast with the new BMWs, Buicks, Cadillacs, Audis and Mercedes that are regularly parked on the other side of Riverside Avenue could not have been greater. Jacksonville is that kind of place.
