The River Tyne from Victoria Bridge

This photo is of the River Tyne, with Nungate Bridge in the background taken from Victoria Bridge, Haddington.

Victoria Bridge, built 1900 by engineers Belfrace and Carfrae. A two-span bridge with each span consisting of eight segmental-arched cast-iron ribs supported on rusticated stone abutments and a central pier.

The Royal Burgh of Haddington is a town situated on the River Tyne, in East Lothian, Scotland. It is the main administrative, cultural and geographical centre for East Lothian, which was known officially as Haddingtonshire before 1921. It lies approximately 20 miles east of Edinburgh.

Today Haddington is a small town with a population of less than 9,000, although at one time it was the fourth largest city in Scotland, after Aberdeen, Roxburgh and Edinburgh.

At the centre of the town is the Town House, originally built in 1748 according to a plan by William Adam.
