Looks Good To Me

Don't Count Your Tomatoes...

...until they're picked. In past years, C has always grown tomatoes in planters, with dismal results. We converted our front lawn to garden in May, 2009, and built a mound of good topsoil along one side. C planted her tomatoes there this year, and they really liked the soil. The plants were huge, with so many tomatoes I had to support them with stakes. We thought we were in for a bumper crop, but the weather didn't co-operate. Maybe we'll be luckier next year.

Click here for photos of me removing a strip of sod along the edge of the lawn last year. We covered the rest of it with cardboard, and spread soil and mulch on top. It was a lot easier than digging up the sod. The tomato site is just in front of the wheelbarrow in the second photo.
