Memories are made of this

Bulgaria inquinans, not the most predictable words to trip off an infant's tongue but my chief childhood companion was my father and much of the information I gained from him during our rambles in the Welsh countryside has lodged in my memory. So, when I spot these little rubbery buttons on a log I know straight away what they are.
It's a saprophytic fungus to be found on dead wood. The gelatinous discs, 1 to 2 centimetres across, resemble tiny suction cups. In this image (macro, with flash) I particularly like the way the way the stars of light gleam along the rim of the left hand specimen.
