Ghost House

In tribal lands of the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation, just South of the Salt River Canyon, is the Ghost Town of Seneca.

A gas station, several houses, and a couple of larger buildings are there. perhaps a motel. A small lake and campground is nearby and a dirt road heads off to the west.

None of the buildings have glass in the windows. It appears that the windows were neatly removed and taken away to be used in homes on the reservation.

Click Here to see a view of the canyon. I call it a "Senior Citizens Grand Canyon" because you can drive to the bottom and back up to the top.

Some History:
In the area of Seneca and prior to the Indian Reservations and their 'new' systems of government and control there were numerous mines in the Salt River area and the ruins are literally scattered all over the area. Seneca, Mule Hoof and Timber Camp were support towns to early prospecting, mining and ranching in the area. There are a lot of minerals in the area and in those early days there were few access roads and most travel was by horse and wagon.

Arizona has over 275 ghost towns and many more camps and other smaller historical locations. See GhostTowns.com.
