Cross country Runners

A total change of scenery today. We went to see the county cross country running championships and to cheer on my stepson who ran in the under 17 boys event where he took second place and brought home the silver medal. This is he, in the blue vest, sitting on the shoulder of his arch rival, who happens to attend the same school. For the first three quarters of the race, this is all there was between them. Then his rival threw down the challenge with a surge which opened up a thirty metre gap that remained right to the finish line.
Second may not be as good as first, but it's better than third and even better than not running at all.
