Hot Foot

Students of photometry should get a chuckle from this.

Many years ago some wise guy in General Electric's lighting division got the idea to produce these, quite literally, foot candles. To most, they appear to be a cute novelty, but for the geek community they represent a unit of measure for illumination, you guessed it -- a "foot candle".

Now a days the metric unit, lux, has mostly displaced it. But for those of us who still prefer inches, pounds and gallons, the foot candle is still revered.

My foot candle has been with me for over 40 years. A bit worse for wear and still waiting to be lit.
