tempus fugit

Sitting pretty

...on my feet! She likes to peck my toes.

She's a 'hybrid layer' of the Bluebell variety, about 6 months old. She already has some history. As the most recent arrival (there are 8 other hens and one cockerel) she found herself at the bottom of the pecking order, and, despite a carefully monitored introduction to the flock, she ended up with a closed eye and a bleeding comb - a pecking disorder, you could say. She was isolated and treated for a week (antibiotic in her drinking water, ointment for her eye) and now she is venturing out. She's keeping herself to herself and seems a little delicate. This good eye is bright enough but I'm not sure whether the other one functions. Still, she can manage as a monocular chicken; her appetite for worms is very good and she likes to wander around the kitchen when she can, pecking up the crumbs.
