What is it about Gerberas in the UK versus those in New Zealand?

Since blipping I've seen several stunning blooms with the Ziwi "owners" proudly boasting that "these are 3 weeks old - don't they still look amazing".

This poor soul is only a week old - and his head had begun to hang a few days ago.

Maybe he just needs the weekend to perk up?
