The Mount

Viewed from Ham Lane, The Mount, Lewes, possibly an earthwork motte or a 17th century garden feature, used as a prospect mound. Not much is known about its origin, although it is rumoured to be connected to a salt working, or the spoil from a chalk or clay. Victorian terracing introduced a spiral walk to the summit. To the west is Lewes Priory and to the north is Lewes Castle.
