Not Venice.

But the boat is called Gondola.

She is a steam yacht built in 1859 by the Furness Ralway Company.

She was retired in 1939 and abandoned in 1960.

The National Trust restored and re-launched her in 1980 and she is used to ferry tourists around Coniston Water.

Coniston Water is also where the late Donald Campbell made his last, tragic attempt at the world water speed record on the 4th January 1967.

The photo is taken from Brantwood, once home to artist, poet, critic and social thinker John Ruskin.

The slight camera shake is probably because I was suffering a little "respiratory distress" having just cycled over Kirkby Moor and up the side of Coniston Water.

A round trip from the house of a fraction over 2 hours for the 28 miles and 2250 ft of ascent. (44Km and 680m)
