*Yet Another Dublin Pub Blip

Today's music session was in Blackhorse Avenue, beside the Phoenix Park. It was a small turnout (just three in addition o the host), but we had a good session regardless. Tony, one of the three who established the Group fifteen years ago, was host and also took the floor for the final thirty minutes. He's our resident expert on all things operatic, and never ceases to amaze us with his encyclopedic knowledge. I guess it was inevitable that his presentation (the final scene from Donizetti's Lucretia Borgia) should be a tribute to Joan Sutherland, who died at the beginning of the week.

Two of us went up the road to Comiskeys pub afterwards for a chat (and yes, it really was as quiet as it looks), after which I made my way across town to Carl's place. We mulled over the idea of ordering food in, but Carl decided against that and dug a chicken out of the fridge and served up a fab meal.

We watched a couple of movies to wind things up: A Single Man and The Men who stare at Goats. Of the two, I definitely preferred the first. It was Carl who realised that the part of Kenny, the student, was played by Nicholas Hoult, who'd made his name as Marcus in About a Boy. We watched one of the Making of... 'extras' on the DVD, which was mostly about how wonderful Tom Ford, the director, was. To our shame we had no idea who Tom Ford was (as in single-handedly turned Gucci around). Ah, ignorance!
