The moon

Another go at the moon - this time with a 1700mm lens :-)
Also known as strapping the camera onto the end of a telescope.
I thought the field of view would be too narrow, but no - it just about fits.

You can really see how scarred the moon is from all its bombardments. That's what the Earth would look like if it weren't for the active geology we have.

Wearing its history on its sleeve I think.
And to think, the moon was once part of Earth too, or at least that's the most plausible theory currently. That a Mars sized planet called Theia collided with the Earth, and the ejected material, of which there was a lot - say about a moon full, formed into a ring that eventually aggregated to form the moon.

Oh - if you happen to go out and look at it tonight, the bright object just to the SE of the moon is jupiter - binoculars will show you the moons.
