Victorian Creativity

Near where I live is this wall, built with small bricks in an herring-bone pattern. It is the wall to what was a grand house in its own grounds on Eccles Old Road, which was at one time known as Millionaires' Mile.

The wall is the face of a much greater construction holding back about 2m of earth from falling in to the road. It was built at a time, when making things beautiful as well as functional was a sign of great wealth. Unfortunately, today, bricks are falling out, and the roots of the trees above are pushing the wall outwards. It is no longer either very straight or vertical!
