Tecumseh and Glenn Miller

Such a long and adventurous day we had :)

This morning we drove off to Tecumseh, south east of us, for a visit to Uncle B. and Aunt K., a hike and an evening of music.

Tecumseh is named after Chief Tecumseh, of the Shawnee, who according to legend rallied up forces for the Battle of Detroit at the Ceremonial Grounds, of which the remains are to be found at Indian Crossing Trails Park. And when I say 'remains' I mean 'lack of', as the Grounds are overgrown and populated by trees.
MUCH better than having them turned into a mall though.

A few years ago, a white deer was spotted in the park. The Indians regarded white/albino animals as sacred, and the people of Tecumseh recognised the doe as something special. When she was killed by a car (for some reason this made it all the more tragic to me) the man who did so wanted to keep her (that's not uncommon here), so he could put her on his wall. Fortunately, another man stepped up, paid a sum of money ... and then buried her in the park. In his mind, that's where she belonged.
She has a nice plaque, and someone put flowers and a little deer statue next to it.

I found it very fitting we saw three deer in the forest a bit later on :)

So we wandered around Indian Crossing, with Uncle B. and Muffin (the Brussels Chiffon), while Aunt K. and Thumbie (their other fur-child) stayed home to make us dinner.

After dinner we went and saw the Glenn Miller Orchestra. While my main choices in music are folk/indie/singer-songwriter stuff ... I am a barrel of crazy burning love for Big Bands.
I was tapping my feet so much they were hurting by the end of the evening :) They played all the crowd-pleasers too: Moonlight Serenade, In the Mood, White Cliffs of Dover. And Danny Boy :)

The only thing missing, for me, was that there was no dancing. So I had to make do with imagining fancy dresses, fedoras, swanky suits and cigar smoke ...
What a blast.
