Today's the day .................. to look across Edinburgh

It was my sister-in-law Margaret's birthday today and so we called in to wish her a Happy Birthday. They live in Edinburgh not far from my Mum and Dad.

They have a large garden which at one time must have been magnificent but which over the years has been allowed to get all overgrown - and the most successful shrubs like rhododendrons have pushed everything else out. Recently, my brother Ron and Margaret have been doing some major work in the garden to restore it to its former glory. This has meant serious cutting back of shrubs and removal of some of the trees.

We had a walk round the garden today and it's all beginning to look very impressive. You can feel the plants breathing a sigh of relief now that they have got some room to grow.

And look at this view that has been opened up! You can see right over the roofs of Edinburgh to Calton Hill - and beyond to the Firth of Forth. We could even make out the familiar shape of Berwick Law way in the distance ...........
