Compost Mentis

In J's garden there is a long walkway, about 50 metres long, bordered on both sides by a 2 metre tall hornbeam hedge. She thought the hedges were making the walkway too dark, so she made 'windows' by cutting rectangles out of the hedge at regular intervals along its length. This is one of them. Brilliant, isn't it? When you look out of each hedge window, you see vistas of the garden that would have been obscured by a solid hedge. When the seasons change, the views change. I imagine that if M.C. Escher tried his hand at gardening, this is how magical it might have looked like if he were as good a gardener as J.

Please view large to see what I mean.

The dome-shaped thing between the 2 trees is a sculpture made of discarded roof slates made by J's daughter. Those of you who follow my journal regularly might remember her sculptures that I've blipped.
