Common Cormorant

As I looked out to sea I saw a number of birds appearing from under water and leaping up onto the rock. They then began to open their wings to dry. About four eventually appeared, perhaps they hunt in groups and circle in on shoals of fish.
I and my school friends always tittered when we had to say the poem The common Cormorant or Shag lays eggs in paper bags....but I don't think it was the word shag that make us laugh it was the thought of a bird laying eggs in a bag...we were so naive!
This picture is for the bird loving, infamous poet and wine connoisseur... Donald.
