Seedling production

Today we added two extra staff from the local research station to help us with budding from about 2000 scionwood from the College of Natural Resources in Lilongwe. These scoin wood and buds have a short shelf life so all hands on deck (very skilled only!).
The life is extended by keeping them in a cool place (with today's high of 36!!)
The improvised fridge is a container of wet sand where the evaporating water cools the sand. An old solution but a good one. I remember teaching the theory in another life!!
By the way we were budding improved variety, orange, grapefruit and tangerine buds on to local lemon rootstock grown fron seeds.
