Lest we forget

Our local newsagent in Middle Street has just created their regular display for Remembrance Day. Harry, one of their cats, is well-known in Stroud and photos of him have regularly featured in the local paper, mostly for his ability to sleep on demand, anywhere in the shop and often in the box of poppies on the counter.

Today, he nipped into position before the owner had time to finish the window; she was about to add a copy of the poem In Flanders Fields, which was mounted in a frame. You can just see her advancing from the counter, possibly to make sure that Harry observes the other commandment.

Helena passed here by chance a minute after I left, and also talked to the owner about the cat. On her way home she bought a white poppy from John, our Deputy Mayor, who lives round the corner from the shop.
