I sneaked this shot as we were looking round a 'maternity centre' in a remote village called Diossong, near the Gambian border.

Although pretty horrific looking to me, there has been over 50 healthy babies born here this year, with the help of newly trained birthing attendents. In an area where there are 25 midwives for the population of 665,000, working in tiny villages across miles of savannah, without cars, these trained volunteers are a life line for pregnant women.
