Burgess Park

I cycled across part of this park every morning and it's really lovely to be away from the hustle and bustle and amongst the leaves, crows and squirrels, albeit for only five minutes. I take the wee path that goes by the now-disused lime kiln (the building to the right of the picture).

Burgess Park used to be a built-up area of the city, but was turned into a park (war-damaged buildings removed, the Surrey Canal filled in) from just after World War II. There are still roads going through the park that used to be filled with traffic driving between factories and housing. The roads are still to be earthed over and no traffic (except bicycles) can use them.

My evening cycle back was full of bicycles. The tube strike brought those steeds out of the cupboards and onto the roads. It was good to see.
