Basingwerk Abbey

Today we went to Greenfield Valley Heritage Park in North Wales. There was loads for all the children to do including a working farm with pigs, chickens et al running around freely, a working blacksmith's forge and a disused Victorian School Building which has been transported to the Heritage Park and painstakingly restored to it's former glory.

We obviously chose the perfect day to visit and not only was the weather kind but there was a Victorian Farmer's Wife in situ with her traditional foods from times gone by all with a pumpkin and ginger theme and also the wood witch visited for a while, telling stories of yesteryear from the woods around the area - fascinating for adults and children alike.

Part of the Heritage Park we had not expected was the ruins of Basingwerk abbey which has been disused since the 15th century but which provides a beautiful backdrop to the natural beauty of the park. The children had a field day running around the ruins and exploring the ramparts that remained. A thoroughly enjoyable day out for all the family and well worth a visit if you are ever in North Wales for a holiday and have a day free to explore.
