Fahrenheit 451

My daughter has been excited about bonfire night for the last week, and was ecstatic tonight. That's the top of her head at the bottom of the frame. She's learned about Guy Fawkes at school, including a gruesome mime about his gory end. This display was at a local wartime airfield, which now houses a private flying club and a fine museum. It was raising money for the village hall, and the airfield firecrew appeared to manning the sparky stuff. Pleasingly, in our current health and safety focused times, the fence was close enough that we could feel the heat.

Tonight she witnessed and questioned a unique phenomenon. Firefighters starting a fire, and feeding it to really get it going, using mini flame-throwers (I'm sure they have a proper name). Although, at age 5, she wouldn't make the Ray Bradbury link, I had to smile.
