The Messy Room

Sketchbook premonition

A neighbour presented himself at my front door this afternoon with a doleful expression and a request for help with a computer problem. New wireless multifunction printer needed installing on his network. No big deal. Happy to help, with a proviso that I actually know a lot more about Macs than PCs.

Three fizzin' hours later I'd sorted his problem involving updated drivers, Epson support, incorrect passwords, numerous visits to network settings and a renewed determination never to buy a Windows PC. Jeez, life's too short.

Frazzed and hungry I fell asleep in front of Final Score.

Scratching around for something worth blipping, this evening I opened an old sketchbook.

I found a sketch from 29th June 2006 which foretells of the Ai Weiwei Sunflower Seeds at Tate Modern. A Gauloises-smoking Frenchman walks his dog past the field of seeds.

In the distance, monumental granite blocks hover and slide, Tetris-like.

Music played its part in this. The top part was sketched while listening to Robert Simpson's 3rd Symphony and in the bottom part Eric Satie took over.

PS. The neighbour called round again. This time with a bottle of wine. Thank you, sir. You're a gent.
