Scare tactical politics

I have always been impressed with the setup of the swiss government - it is truly politics of the people since the process is as follows: if i wanted free cheese for everyone, i would gather 10000 signatures and then submit it to the fed. Government. They would then write the law and it would be put to a public vote per canton (region). This means that every Swiss has a say on legislation. It also means that depending on where you are in the country, a law may or may not be eligible!

Last summer one political party in Swizterland became globally renown for having a poster that depicted a politically sensitive subject: a female in a burka with minarets that look like missiles in an attempt to campaign against allowing Muslims residents the right to build mosques with minarets. This winter they have come up with this beauty: the white sheep kicking out the black sheep from Switzerland which is an initiative to make it harder for foreigners to reside here.

As one of the 1 and a half million tax paying foreigners living and working in this country, it's not really very pleasant to know that a lot of people would vote for such party but since I can't fault their truly democratic voting system I must simply watch in despair and pray for tolerance.
