The rain in Spain

Falls mainly in .... Bilbao. I have always wanted to see the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and today was the day. Like with many things you really, really want it often it is a let down in the end. Same here. The Guggenheim looks great on the outside but inside (sorry Mr. Gehry) it is a mess. My understanding of buildings is that they should support whatever purpose they are built for. Not so here. The building is way too attention seeking on the inside and distracts from the art. It actually made me physically nervous. There are so many corners, angles and general "bits" sticking out that you start to wonder why. What is the great masterplan? I don't think it works at all on the inside and was thoroughly disappointed. The restaurant/cafe area was rubbish as well. Way too small to cater for the demand placed upon it and this was out of season. My verdict: Guggenheim, you are severely overrated. My tip: If you want to visit a thoroughly enjoyable museum abroad, go and see the Serralves in Porto. Situated in a gorgeous park it has very interesting exhibitions combined with great educational work in schools that also tends to be on display.
I still had a nice day even though it was more or less raining non-stop. This young guy had found the discarded umbrella and for reasons unknown to man got really excited by it. He picked it up and took it down the steps to his parents. A minute later it was in the bin: Mama did not like it ...
