Ocotillo Branch

Sunlight filters through an Ocotillo branch, showing the colours as the leaves change and prepare to fall. Normal appearance of Ocotillo is simply bare, dead-looking sticks as they assume their water-saving mode. This plant is on its way to that appearance.

We don't have the colorful leaves of the Oaks and Maples that are seen in the more Northern latitudes. We will have to be happy with these colors. In compensation, the lowest nighttime temperatures seen here in the High Desert at 3500 ft altitude so far have not been below 50 degrees F.
