Downy Woodpecker

This small (6 inch) woodpecker is a year-round resident for us. And although they refuse the lovely home provided for them, they always stop by for suet. The red spot on the head indicates that this one is a male.

This was taken outside (instead through the usual bedroom window) and he let me get quite close before taking off. Here he is watching me :)
