Christmas Box

I know, I know, it's too early!

This year I've been asked to put a Christmas box together for a random soldier out in Afghanistan. I've never done it before. These were the guidelines; it has to be light for the postage and fit in a shoe box but non-aerosol, non-perishable, non-pornographic(!) and non-alcoholic.

I had a chat with one or two folks, emailed a few who might have good ideas (probably should've asked Airborne Skygod) then went shopping with my imaginative friend, Sarah. The general consensus was a couple of practical items, some sweeties, something Christmassy and some fun stuff.

Sarah and I had planned to go to a craft fair in Morningside today anyway. We had a great time, picked up lots of goodies for the shoebox, a few things for Sarah's nephew and niece, and had a calorie-laden lunch of cake and hot chocolate at the Chocolate Tree cafe in Bruntsfield. I think we managed to get something in each of the categories. I was particularly pleased with a card that folds out to a 3-D Christmas tree. A few more things to add tomorrow and then it's finished, apart from the all important shoe box.

All in all a very pleasant day, Sarah is off to the rugby now, and I'll be trying to catch up with the T189 course this evening.

Thank you for your kind comments on the Remembrance day discussions, published yesterday.
