Ring Of Fire

So, the beer festival continueth, and on an action-packed (not to mention freezing cold) Saturday, several hundred Furnessians old and new descended on Trev to sample the numerous ales, reminisce, and relive the old days as riotously as possible.

Fire-spinning was just one of the many attractions of the evening, with an itinerary that also included the release of forty Chinese lanterns at midnight. Unfortunately, the latter did not go entirely as planned; in retrospect, letting several dozen drunk people play with incendiary objects in a gale force wind was always going to be an iffy prospect, but after the opening salvo of six lanterns wreaked an impressive level of havoc - blowing into trees, bushes, bins, and nearly burning down University House - we decided not to tempt fate or the Fire Brigade any further.
