Mum dad and one precious duckling in daisies!

Male and female paradise shelduck protecting one duckling in the daisies by the river bank. They were eating the grass and seemed very peaceful, so no dogs around obviously.

They are extremely protective of their young and will chase off any other birds that come near with loud honking calls. They will attempt to scare off dogs, cats, rats, and people if they get too close.

The young ones all seem to fledge in dark male plumage and then as they mature the females develop the distinctive brown and white plumage.
