Castro Street, San Francisco

I wanted a ride in a cable car before going to my meeting at midday today and decided to hop onto the nearest one passing by my boutique hotel in Mission Street. The last stop was the Castro neighbourhood, now a largely gay district with victorian houses, bars and restaurants...a very interesting, and charming place. Harvey Milk, SF's openly gay Mayor in the early 1970s opened up a camera shop (seen on the left hand side of the picture) which also served as his headquarters. The shop is now a museum and open to visitors. The morning shadows on the left hand side of the frame, and the quintessential SF hill were the main impetus for this photograph.
