Patterns in the Oak

Another sunny day but an inch of rain is expected tonight!

Here is the cross section of a tree trunk - Oak I think - lying at the bottom of the yard. The tree had to come down since it was dying and so the chainsaw did its job preparing the wood for the logsplitter. Each chunk will make several logs and will be kept or sold for firewood. But meanwhile I love looking at the different patterns and where the beetles have been boring holes. The tree must have been pretty sick looking at the irregularities in the wood. Hopefully some of the felled tree will remain on the ground to home all manner of insects, bugs and toadstools.

The vet is visiting again this afternoon for the results of the TB test on those two bulls.
