The Edge of the Wold

Sunset over the viaduct

Like last Friday, I went for a walk out onto Arnside Marsh as the sun was going down. The mudflats were drier than a week ago and it was possible to walk almost as far as the Kent channel without getting stuck in the gooey mud. As the sun sinks towards the viaduct and the horizon, the complex textures of the mudflats are picked out by the low light.

At the beginning of the day, morning mist was hanging over the low-lying ground around Silverdale Moss, see link. I had a train to catch, so couldn't stay to see the sun come up.

I missed a blip yesterday. We went to the Kendal mountain festival to see a film about a mountaineering trip across Patagonia. It turned out the film hadn't arrived from the US, and instead the top of the bill was a bizarre film about the London to Mongolia rally. This was preceded by a film about cave-diving in Spain. It would have benefitted from a script-writer, or even from being silent, the image of these tough, fearless explorers was punctured by their monotonous droning descriptions of their diving trips underground. A masterclass in making the extraordinary oh so ordinary. It was good to have an evening out though.
