Sunset over the Rowing Lke

Today we had been planning to go and see our nearest starling murmuration, about forty minutes drive away. However, after a glorious start the weather again turned very grey towards the middle of the day. Having decided to postpone our visit until tomorrow, the sky started to clear a little, and as the sun was setting various pinkish and orange hues started to appear.

We seem to have had very few good sunsets in the east this autumn, so I wasn't going to let this one elude me. I junped in the car and drove for about five minutes down to the Rowing Lake next to the River Nene, just in time to catch the brightest colours, which only lasted for about ten minutes. The Rowing Lake is a championship course, exactly one kilometre long. In recent years it has acquired a significant population of wintering mute swans, usually about sixty, though there didn't seem to be so many tonight.

I just hope we have a good sunset tomorrow evening - Sod's Law says that it will probably be grey and dull. And I really need to get some fingerless gloves -my hands nearly froze taking photographs in the biting north-east wind!!
