Dennis Severs' House

You're not supposed to take photographs in Dennis Severs' House in Spitalfields, London, but I snuck a couple in surreptitiously. Anyway, other visitors brought young children along when the website clearly says that "a most absurd but commonly made error is to assume that it might be either amusing or appropriate for children". Either way it's a fascinating journey into the past, and quite a unique experience as the objects inside are all part of a fascinating character study of an imaginary family that remains unseen other than in paintings or notes and letters, and you are left with a much more interesting impression of 17th- and 18th-century life than you get from more traditional museums or books. By the way, the tiles in the fireplace were made in the 1980s, and one depicts a rather infamous amorous incident that took place in a Porsche parked in a nearby street.
