Cracks

The first time you have your heart broken you simply don't understand what's happening.

You've never experienced such intense emotional anguish that you think you can run from it - that you can do something different to escape it.

You can run on a treadmill until you can't physically carry on, you can try keeping so busy you fall into bed exhausted at night, you can meditate, you can talk about it/him for hours.

But it's not until you've faced yourself in the lonely night or the cold light of day and you look at yourself in the mirror and realise you have to face it that you begin to start getting better.

It gradually dawns that you have to experience the dreadful pain before it will ever heal and go away.

I did that. After two long years it finally went away.

So I was surprised by how quickly the wounds re-open when they've only fairly recently healed.

My tip in this painful scenario? Best not to be too cavalier with that old heart.

It'll have you on your knees not knowing what's hit you long before you start staring at your reflection in the mirror once again and wondering what went wrong.
