Dipper in the snow

The river is looking beautiful at the moment - all the rocks are capped with a generous heap of snow and the river edges are frozen, leaving dark channels of freezing water flowing steadily through this snowy maze.

I spotted this dipper working his way up one of the channels, feeding on the river floor and stopping now and again to eat his catch, but I was quite surprised when he emerged with this small fish. He thrashed it on the ice a bit and then swallowed it whole, which looked like quite an effort. Then he flew off.
